What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump's visit to Texas, where he said to Governor Abbott during a status briefing in Corpus Christi, "We won't say 'congratulations' ... we'll congratulate each other when it's all finished."

What the White House Press Corps is Talking About:
Trump's visit, with Melania Trump. But also: possible DACA ruling, North Korea missile, and more potential business links to Russia.

Only Tremendous Crowds:
Apparently, the President wasn't happy with the sparseness of the rally crowd in Phoenix last week (that was just last week), so he punished the guy who had been organizing his rallies.

Our Daily Melania, High Heels Edition:
Wow, so you guys didn't like the heels, huh? This morning, when Melania stepped out of the White House and onto Marine One -- and then from Marine One onto Air Force One -- she was wearing the shoes she often wears. But today, for some reason, those 5-inch stilettos set off a firestorm of controversy; the fashion police were out in force and ready to arrest based on the fact the first lady was headed to a flood zone. Vogue.com was quick with a hot take, as was Pret-a-Reporter, the fashion arm of The Hollywood Reporter, which went up with a headline that just wasn't correct. Let me play devil's advocate here, while acknowledging, yes, from an optics perspective, she could have gone with a different shoe: the knives were out for her footwear before she even landed in Texas, which isn't really fair because I was willing to bet when she got off the plane there, she would NOT be wearing the same shoes. And she wasn't -- she went with what looked to me like Adidas sneakers. She also changed her shirt, to crisp white button-down, and ditched the bomber. IMHO, the addition of the FLOTUS baseball hat was the cherry on top.
One last note on this: I'm a heels person, and I'm guessing Melania is too. My go-to shoe is often a 3-5 inch high heel, has been for almost 20 years. I don't think it's such a huge deal that the first lady left the house to walk the runway of White House-to-aircraft in a chic stiletto -- I think it's more unusual she wore sunglasses in the rain. I asked the first lady's communications director if she had a comment about the whole heels thing because people on Twitter were losing their minds and was told: "It's sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes."

I assume she had the change of shoes -- and the FLOTUS baseball cap --   in one of these two Louis Vuitton bags that an aide was spotted taking to the helicopter:

Who Wore it Best/Dress Like the First Lady:
Melania Trump's bomber jacket and black ensemble reminded me that one time Michelle Obama donned a similar look -- because my brain works this way and I can't always help it. Michelle wore hers in April 2016 for an event at the White House Kitchen Garden where she planted vegetables and plants with students.

Back to those outfits, tho. I can't solidly identify Melania's jacket, but her shoes appear to be the $595 Manolo Blahnik BBs she tends to favor. Michelle paired her high-top Converse with black jeans and this $850 3.1 Phillip Lim bomber jacket

Sean Spicer Finally Meets the Pope:
We all remember Spicer's ill-fated trip to Vatican City, when he wasn't invited to the small audience who got to meet the Pope in person with the President and a handful of his advisers. Spicer's a devout Catholic, and that probably hurt his feelings, a lot.

What Washington is Talking About:
President Trump says "all options are on the table" after North Korea yesterday fired a missile over Japan that was in flight for about 14 minutes.

What America is Talking About:
Harvey isn't done yet. The storm is expected to again make landfall Wednesday, and portions of Texas and Louisiana could see up to 15 inches of rain.

America is also talking about Joel Osteen, whose Houston megachurch Lakewood has been criticized for allegedly closing its doors to flood victims. A spokesman, however, denies this. On Sunday, Lakewood posted on Facebook that it was inaccessible due to flooding, and a spokesman provided photos to CNN of the church's hallways and parking lot flooded. It's reopening today.

Poll of the Day:
Only 34% of Repubs "like the way Donald Trump conducts himself as president," according to a Pew poll released this morning, while 46% say they have "mixed feelings" and 19% said they "don't like."
The poll also found 58% of Republicans and Republican leaners said Trump should "listen more to Republicans who have experience working in government."

"He's an A------. But he's our A------":
That's what Repub Rep. Duncan Hunter of California said about Trump, according to four people who listened to him speak to the Riverside County Young Republicans. What a time to be alive.

Warning, Purveyors of Fake News:
Facebook says it's going to block ads from pages that repeatedly share fake news. "If Pages repeatedly share stories marked as false, these repeat offenders will no longer be allowed to advertise on Facebook," product managers Satwik Shukla and Tessa Lyons wrote in a blog post. "Today's update helps to disrupt the economic incentives and curb the spread of false news, which is another step towards building a more informed community on Facebook."

The Colorado Stabbing Attack That Wasn't:
The 26-year-old man who said he was mistaken for a white supremacist because of his haircut and stabbed in Colorado actually stabbed himself, police told BuzzFeed News. Video showed him buying a knife at a nearby sporting goods store, and he admitted to law enforcement he accidentally cut himself with it and made up the story of the attack. Smh.

Beyoncé Pledges Help in Houston:
She told her hometown paper, the Houston Chronicle, "My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help. I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor (Rudy Rasmus at St. John's in downtown Houston) to implement a plan to help as many as we can."

Coldplay Performs Tribute Song to Houston:
The band canceled their Houston show last week, but performed  a song titled "Houston" for the city last night during their Miami show. You can spin it here. "This is because we all grew up loving country music, and of course that's kind of what we think of when we go to Texas," Chris Martin said. "This is a new song and we'll never play this again. It's a one-off and it's called 'Houston.'"

Taylor Swift Expected to Halt "Despacito":
Billboard projects "Look What You Made Me Do" will be No. 1 on next week's Hot 100, stopping "Despacito" from breaking the record for longest No. 1 run held by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey's "One Sweet Day."

Justice For Tiffany:
Tiff posted this pic for her "1st day of law school." The books on the desk include "Studies in Contract Law," "Civil Procedure, Cases and Materials Eleventh Edition," and "Constitutional Law."
