OnPolitics Today: Party in the USA

Happy Monday, OP readers! Put your hands up, they're playing our song and the butterflies fly away. It's Made in America Week down at the White House, so we of course can't get our favorite Miley Cyrus song stuck in our head.

President Donald Trump examines US-made products from

Also today: Trump's presidency is six months old this week and well wishes for Sen. John McCain.

Nodding my head like yeah

What to do when you don't like what everyone's talking about? You change the subject, of course. That's what it feels like over at the White House, where the Theme of the Week is Made in America, even though the media glare is honed in on the expanding controversy surrounding Donald Trump Jr. and the ongoing Russia investigations. The president got to survey an, ahem, interesting assortment of things Made in America and touted tax cuts, efforts to cut regulation, and trade policies.

"Where's the fire?" Trump said. "I'll put it out!" Joke or metaphor? You decide.

Happy six months!

What do you get someone for your six-month anniversary? That's what America is celebrating with Trump this week, whose presidency turns six months old on Thursday. It's been a rollercoaster of a time, to say the least, from travel bans and tweets to foreign trips and firings. So, what could possibly come next? USA TODAY's Susan Page writes : "The problem for President Trump is not just that he's had a bumpy beginning in office - so did John Kennedy and Bill Clinton, among others. It's also that he's heading into the second half of his first year in the White House without yet applying lessons learned the hard way about imposing discipline, compartmentalizing scandal and adjusting course."

Get well soon, senator

Sen. John McCain is currently in recovery after having surgery to remove a blood clot from above his left eye. The 80-year-old Arizona Republican's procedure was announced by his office over the weekend. "He is in good spirits and recovering comfortably at home with his family. On the advice of his doctors, Senator McCain will be recovering in Arizona next week," his office said. ( Not everyone shares our sentiments, it seems.)
