OnPolitics Today: Anthony Scaramucci says Steve Bannon sucks

Oh boy. Where to begin? Anthony Scaramucci, named President Trump's top communications staffer last week, has no prior communications experience.

White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci

None. He was a Wall street financier. Remember that point.

Scaramucci has rampaged this week over White House leaks, threatening to "fire everybody" until they come to a halt.

Scaramucci also on Wednesday phoned New Yorker politics writer Ryan Lizza, bursting into a profanity-laced tirade about Reince Priebus, the White House chief of staff, and Steve Bannon, Trump's top strategist.

"Reince is a (expletive) paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac," Scaramucci said. Bannon, he said, sucks, utilizing an obscene direct object we can't even hint at here.

"What I want to do is I want to (expletive) kill all the leakers," Scaramucci told Lizza, "and I want to get the President's agenda on track so we can succeed for the American people."

Will any of this advance Trump's agenda at all? Almost certainly not. But cut Scaramucci some slack: He has no experience.

More Scaramucci madness

Scaramucci foreshadowed his volatile New Yorker comments earlier Thursday, criticizing "senior leakers" in the White House who "think it is their job to save America from this president." He all but referred directly to Priebus, putting out a tweet and a later CNN interview that only further underscored his feud with the chief of staff.  Priebus had successfully opposed Scaramucci's hiring up until last week, reportedly calling him unqualified.

Military to transgender troops: Ignore Trump, for now

U.S. military leaders declared on Thursday that transgender troops could keep their jobs and health care despite Trump's tweets from the day before suggesting both would end. In a memo, the nation's highest-ranking military officer said there would be no changes  in transgender policy until the White House gave specific direction. Military leaders said they were blindsided by Trump's announcement.

Trump still railing on Sessions, who calls Trump 'a strong leader'

Attorney General Jeff Sessions finally spoke up after days of criticism from Trump, saying he wants to keep his job despite a barrage of "hurtful" criticism from the president. "The president of the United States is a strong leader," Sessions told Fox News. Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham promised " there will be holy hell to pay" if Sessions is fired from his post. Graham also threatened Trump with plans of a bill that would prevent the firing of Robert Mueller, who's leading the investigation into Russia's election meddling.
