Let's talk health care, Energy Week and CNN.
| | | with Jessica Estepa | OnPolitics Today: You don't have the votes | Happy Tuesday, OP friends. We already know what you're thinking: Will these people ever tire of making Hamilton references day in, day out? | | In a word: No. | On the docket today: Health care. Energy. CNN. | Let's go. | A (temporary) halt for health care | With some GOP senators declaring that they won't vote for the current iteration of the Senate's proposed health care overhaul, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell had to announce Tuesday that he would delay a vote on the legislation until after their recess for the 4th of July. Republican senators then headed over to the White House to talk it out with President Trump, who reiterated that Obamacare is a "disaster." This doesn't mean that the bill is dead, of course - it's just gonna take a little more time than expected to get the moderates and conservatives to agree on something. | Still, somewhere out there, we imagine that Senate Democrats are rejoicing, a la Jefferson and Madison. | HIGH ENERGY | Rick Perry - the man who once wanted to abolish the Energy Department and is now in charge of it - is out there to talk about Energy Week. He's happy to confirm that yes, the climate is changing, and he wants to discuss how much the country should look into nuclear power. But please, let's not talk about whether the president thinks climate change is real or that time that he called the president (then only a candidate) a "cancer on conservatism." As far as DOE is concerned, this is all a win. | CNN will defend its ratings, goshdarnit | Last week, CNN published and then had to retract a story that asserted a Senate committee was investigating a Trump transition team member for an alleged meeting with a Russian investment fund chief. On Monday, three journalists who worked on that story handed in their resignations. | So of course, by Tuesday morning, Trump had to share his thoughts on the matter. | "Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories. Ratings way down!" the president tweeted. | CNN replied by pointing out that its ratings were actually up. #news | Elsewhere in politics | | | MOST POPULAR STORIES | | | | | | | FOLLOW US Thank you for subscribing to On Politics. © 2017 USA TODAY, a division of Gannett Satellite Information Network, LLC. 7950 Jones Branch Drive, McLean, VA 22102 Unsubscribe from On Politics Why did I get this?
