Trump is threatening tariffs against Mexico. Again. | Trump is demanding that Mexico provide more water to the United States and threatened to raise tariffs by 5% on imports if the country doesn't open the spigot. Sound familiar? That's because the president has made the threat before. In April, he raised the possibility of new tariffs on the country's southern neighbor in response to a water shortfall. The State Department announced at the time that Mexico responded by committing to providing more water under a 1944 treaty. But now, Trump is claiming Mexico isn't meeting its water obligations, as both sides of the Rio Grande River suffer from a shortage. | President Donald Trump gestures as he attends a roundtable discussion on the day he announced an aid package for farmers, at the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., December 8, 2025. Nancy Mace blasts GOP leadership for treatment of women | Rep. Nancy Mace slammed Republican Rep. Mike Johnson in an op-ed published by the New York Times today, as discord among the caucus continues to spill into the public sphere. The South Carolina congresswoman, who is also running in the state's 2026 gubernatorial election, unleashed on House leadership in the piece. She accused them of marginalizing rank-and-file members, lacking accountability and pushing the party's women members to the side. "Women will never be taken seriously until leadership decides to take us seriously, and I'm no longer holding my breath," Mace wrote. Read more of her attacks on the party leadership here. |
Trump's approval rating ticks up in new poll | The president's approval rating ticked up a few points in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, after it dipped last month to the lowest in his second term. One reason why: Republicans are warming up to his policies on inflation and cost of living, after his ratings took a nosedive last month. In the survey released today, Trump had a 41% approval rating, compared with the outlet's last poll released Nov. 18, which put him at 38%. The slight increase is at least partially attributable to respondents' improved cost-of-living ratings. The issue has come to dominate domestic politics over the past few months, leading Trump to unveil several initiatives after Democrats swept Nov. 4 races on affordability platforms. |
