Submarine vanishes deep in the Atlantic Ocean |
U.S. and Canadian rescue teams continue searching Tuesday for a submarine named the Titan that was carrying five people to the wreckage site of the Titanic when it disappeared deep in the Atlantic Ocean with four days' or less worth of survival capability. The operation's location − about 900 miles east of Cape Cod and up to 13,000 feet deep − complicates the task, as does the need to look both on the surface of the water and below, officials said. Every passing minute, however, puts the Titan's crew at greater risk. The vessel had a 96-hour oxygen supply when it went to sea at roughly 6 a.m. Sunday. Read more |
Trump gives new reason he didn't hand over classified documents |
Former President Donald Trump offered a new explanation Monday as to why he didn't return classified documents he took with him from the White House, saying he was "very busy" and didn't have time to separate them from his personal belongings. Asked why he didn't simply return the boxes full of documents after the National Archives and Justice Department moved to subpoena him, Trump gave a similar reply about being overbooked. Trump is charged with 37 felony counts of mishandling national security information and obstructing justice in not returning them. Read more |
Blinken and Xi pledge to stabilize deteriorated US-China ties |

But Blinken left Beijing with his biggest ask rebuffed: Blinken says China is not ready to resume military-to-military contacts, something the U.S. considers crucial. |

Is a rare June hurricane possible? |
Forecasters are monitoring the development of one and potentially two tropical systems over what have been record warm waters between the Caribbean and West Africa, and the National Hurricane Center is forecasting the first will more than likely grow into Hurricane Bret. That first system became a tropical storm Monday with sustained winds close to 40 mph, the center said. Tropical Storm Bret is predicted to bulk up to hurricane strength within a few days. The appearance of the two systems in June is unusual, and abnormally warm water is expected to play a major role as this year's hurricane season unfolds. Read more |

The Supreme Court decision which removed access to abortion as a constitutionally protected right elated the anti-abortion movement. But the aftermath of the Dobbs decision is also helping boost support for abortion to historic highs and reshaping the debate over what has long been the deepest political wedge issue in the nation. In a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll, one in four Americans say state efforts that have followed to impose strict limits on abortion access have made them more supportive of abortion rights.
