The last 24 hours in Elon Musk news

We've got a quadruple shot of Elon for you today:

1. Tesla earned a record $3.32 billion in the first quarter, seven times what it made in the first quarter of 2021. The electric carmaker's performance was powered by strong sales despite global supply chain kinks and pandemic-related production cuts in China.

2. Musk says he has lined up $46.5 billion in financing to buy Twitter, and he's now trying to negotiate an agreement with the company after it enacted a poison pill to block the sale last week.

3. Musk blamed a surprise drop in Netflix subscribers on the political correctness of its content, tweeting that the "woke mind virus" has made the streaming platform "unwatchable."

4. Speaking of Musk tweets, a federal judge ruled Wednesday that there will be no gag order barring him from discussing a lawsuit that claims he defrauded Tesla investors with a 2018 post about taking the company private.

Some homebuyers, frustrated by low housing inventory and losing out on homes that go under contract within days of going on the market, are taking charge of finding leads themselves.

That was the case for Malory Lea of Pleasantville, New York. Unhappy with the house her agent was showing her, she stalked social media in search of leads, hoping to cut out the middle man.

"I left little notes in people's mailboxes saying, 'I really wanna live here. Let me know if you are interested in selling your house,'" she tells USA TODAY. While that tactic didn't work, word of mouth did. Lea's sister ended up connecting her with sellers who'd grown equally frustrated with their agent's pricing strategy.

The big advantage for Lea as a buyer in finding her own lead was not having to worry about bidding wars and not having to compete with anyone.

"Don't be afraid to start talking. A lot can happen by word of mouth. I think a lot of people forget how helpful it can be."
