On Today's Show

On GPS at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN:

In a GPS edition coming to you from Aspen, CO, Fareed first gives his take on the Trump administration's talks with the Taliban—and how an emerging deal could spell peace or disaster.

"It all depends on how it is handled now," Fareed says, as a potential deal could involve a significant US drawdown. "The key must be a political settlement between the Taliban and the Afghan government, and not the rapid withdrawal of US troops."

The US must secure political gains before offering concessions that would be hard to undo, Fareed argues; Washington "needs to make sure it doesn't just end the war, but also wins the peace," he says.

Next, Fareed will discuss today's major geopolitical flash points—Afghanistan, tensions with Iran, and the US-China trade war—with three former top US officials: former deputy national security advisor Stephen Hadley, who now chairs the US Institute of Peace; former deputy national security advisor Meghan O'Sullivan, now of Harvard University's Belfer Center; and former national security advisor Tom Donilon, who now chairs the BlackRock Investment Institute.

Our What in the World segment will examine the war in Yemen and what the United Arab Emirates' withdrawal might mean for that conflict; Fareed will also talk with former Irish president and UN high commissioner for human rights Mary Robinson, who now leads the Nelson Mandela-founded group The Elders, about the inequality of global warming and the state of women's health worldwide.

Finally, Daniel Pink, author of When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing, tells us the best times of day to exercise, focus on work, think creatively, and see a doctor—plus the best age to get married and when in life people are happiest.
